Segment Sixteen: Invasion

Jungsu stood in front of seven Supernaturals looking uncharacteristically serious. His hands were clasped behind his back and his expression was grim. He drew in a deep breath, as if preparing himself and then looked the seven of them squarely and began to speak.

“It has finally happened. The Sanction has discovered our location and will attack at dusk,” Jungsu bit his lip, as though this news pained him terribly. “Our first priority is getting the members of the Clan out. We’ll begin with those who cannot or are too young to fight. Those people will be the puplings and the self-prisoners. We’ll send a messenger to one of the other clans and ask if they will take them in. Then we’ll get everyone else out. I’m not having The Sanction come in and take every last one of you.”

“We can’t all go to the same clans. That’s too conspicuous as well as too much. They have their own members to take care of too,” Ryeowook pointed out. Jungsu nodded at that information. At that moment, Heechul appeared out of the shadows and joined in their conference. His eyes focused on Jongwoon and the vampire pretended not to notice.

“Yes, we’ll have to split up. We’ll see who has room where and split you up accordingly,” Jungsu decided.

Jaejoong raised a hand, “Who should we inform of this? We can’t tell everyone, nobody would want to leave. Everyone would want to stay and fight but the self-prisoners are too weak and the puplings are in no place to offer themselves to be ripped apart.”

Jungsu sighed, “Tell only who you must as in those that will help the move. We’ll tell everyone else that we’re doing some relocation plans. We’ll make something up about humans moving too close.”

Jongwoon felt sick. This was all happening because of him. He was disgusted with the way he simply obeyed Kibum blindly, telling him all that he wanted to know, even when he knew it was endangering others.

Hankyung piped up, “We’ll have to assign people to different areas. Someone should be in charge of the self-prisoners and someone else should be taking care of the puplings. We can have different members in charge of groups heading to different clans. Those puplings who have parents in the Clan can go with them. Enough families have been split up already.”

“What about those who were on the lists? Sungmin is the most wanted werepire and Jaewon is known by The Sanction. Sungmin and Jaewon should also leave,” Yunho suggested.

“No,” Sungmin shot a look at the werewolf, present despite his exhaustion, “I’m not leaving my clan when I’m needed. I’m the best warrior. You’re not getting rid of me.”

“We can’t force Sungmin to leave but we can get Jaewon to go. We’ll just assign him to the puplings or something,” Hankyung offered.

Ryeowook nodded in agreement, “That’s a good idea. But the problem is, what about the others? You know, Donghae and Hyukjae etc? They’ll definitely want to stay and make sure everything is okay too. What about them? They’ll know we’re trying to get rid of them.”

“We’ll make an announcement for the entire Clan of Seoul. They deserve to know and they’ll listen to Jungsu when he tells them to leave,” Jaejoong reassured Ryeowook.

“Right now, I want to assign people to different areas,” Jungsu waved his hands. “Who will figure out a place for the self-prisoners?”

“We will. I’ll send a messenger to the Clan of Gwangju,” Heechul offered, pointing at himself and Hankyung.

“Good,” Jungsu nodded with approval. “Next, who will take care of the puplings?”

“I will,” Jongwoon offered. “I’ll get Donghae to go with them. He loves them and where Donghae goes, Hyukjae will follow.”

“Brilliant,” Jungsu smiled, “Have either Donghae or Hyukjae to help you decide where to send the pups.”

“Now we’ll split ourselves into five groups. We have five separate nesting areas so we’ll split up according to that. Who wants to take those groups?”

“I’ll be in charge of one but I’ll be staying behind,” Jaejoong offered.

Ryeowook raised a hand, “I’ll take the second nesting group.”

“I’ll lead the third,” Yunho decided.

“I’ll be in charge of the fourth,” Youngwoon announced.

“That leaves me with the fifth,” Jungsu said. “All right, let’s protect our Clan.”

“What is it that The Sanction is trying to do exactly?” Heechul asked, having come in late and as a result, missing the announcement that Jungsu had made.

The Sanction is attacking us at dusk and we have to get everyone away before then. They want to destroy us,” Ryeowook answered.

“They’re going to try and take us down?” Heechul scoffed. “Good luck.”

“What do you mean? All of The Sanction is coming!” Jongwoon exclaimed.

“You’re talking to the vampire who ripped each senior member of The Sanction apart before fleeing to come here. Believe me, they’re asking for an ass kicking. You just take care of your groups. Leave it to Hankyung and me,” Heechul said, smirking before he vanished into darkness.

Jongwoon walked into the Young Nest, anticipating the rush of puplings. He was surprised when he saw only Hyukjae there, cleaning a mess on the floor.

“Where is everybody?” Jongwoon asked as he looked around. Hyukjae didn’t look away from the soiled floor.

“Donghae took them to the Atrium. They’re really rambunctious today,” the werepire dancer smiled. “Why? Do you need something?”

Jongwoon looked away. He didn’t know how to say it. He didn’t know what to say. How could he tell Hyukjae that his life was about to change and not for the better?

“Hey, what’s wrong? You look really worried,” Hyukjae commented, coming closer to the vampire. Jongwoon looked at him, something close to despair in his eyes.

“Hyukjae, I need to find Donghae. The Sanction is attacking at dusk and we have to get the puplings to a safe place,” Jongwoon said, eyes never moving from the werepire’s face. Hyukjae went pale, mouth falling open slightly.

Th-the Sanction is attacking?” Hyukjae asked, voice shaky. Jongwoon nodded with great misery.

“Yes. I need to find Donghae because he’s going to bring the puplings who are parentless to a safe place. Do you know of a clan that would take the pups?” Jongwoon asked. Hyukjae blinked, snapping back to reality.

“Well, we could always ask the Clan of Busan. I’m sure they’d be willing to take the pups,” Hyukjae said hesitantly.

“Good. I want to be sure that there’s a place for them before I send everyone out. Will you go to them and see?” Jongwoon asked.

Hyukjae nodded, “Sure I can – wait hang on. Donghae’s calling me.”

The werepire walked out of the Young Nest and Jongwoon followed him, wondering what on earth Donghae could want at such a critical time. Hyukjae walked into the Atrium, shadowed by Jongwoon. Never before had the vampire seen the Atrium so full of activity.

Werepires were walking to and fro, some with messages in their hands and others with possessions. Donghae saw Hyukjae and ran up to him, fisting his mate’s shirt between his fingers.

“Hyukjae, where’s Jongwoon? Jungsu made an announcement for the Clan and The Sanction is coming for us. He told me that Jongwoon is taking charge of the puplings. Do you know where he is?” Donghae asked urgently.

“I’m right here,” Jongwoon said, poking his head out from behind Hyukjae. The werepire dancer sighed with relief.

“Thank god. Jungsu told me that you’re in charge. Do you know where you’re going to send them?” Donghae’s eyes were tinted with worry. The puplings crowded around his legs, keeping close together and watching the frantic clan with wide eyes.

Jongwoon nodded, “I asked Hyukjae to go to the Clan of Busan to ask if they’ll agree to taking our puplings.”

“I’m on it,” Hyukjae announced before disappearing into the shadows.

“We need to keep them calm,” Donghae murmured, kneeling down and gently reassuring the nearest pups with small back rubs.

“That’ll be kind of hard with half the Clan in an uproar,” Jongwoon reminded him softly. Darkness converged and Hyukjae stepped out of the shadows.

“They’ll take the puplings as soon as we want them to,” Hyukjae reported. Jongwoon nodded.

“All right. You two, divide the pups into those who have parents and those who don’t. The ones with parents will go with their families. Those that don’t will go to Busan. Let me find Jungsu and we’ll get underway,” Jongwoon ordered.

He moved through the bustling Atrium, searching for the leader of the Clan of Seoul. He found Jungsu standing near the west door, directing a couple of werepires to where the needed to be.

“Hey, Jungsu, the Clan of Busan says that they’ll take in the puplings without parents,” Jongwoon said without preamble.

“Good. The Clans of Gwangju, Incheon, Ulsan, Jeju and Mokpo have also responded. Get the pups without parents out now. We have no time to waste. It’s already midday and we still have more than half a Clan here,” Jungsu summarized.

Jongwoon hurried back to Hyukjae and Donghae. They had separated the puplings into two groups and were reassuring them constantly. None of the pups were smiling or playing anymore.

“All right, let’s get the single puplings to Busan,” Jongwoon said, gesturing to the other werepires. They nodded and immediately picked up the nearest pups. Jongwoon searched the single group until he found the pup he was looking for.

He made his way to Taewung who was in the middle of the crowd, looking at the other pups for reassurance. Jongwoon bent down and picked him up, cradling the small Supernatural in his arms.

“What’s happening?” Taewung asked, looking around in frantically, purple eyes wide with curiosity suppressed fear.

“We’re getting you to a safer place. You might be strong but things are about to get bad. You can come back when the bad things have gone away,” Jongwoon explained. His heart was breaking. He had caused this all to happen. The pup in his arms looked at him, gaze so trusting that the vampire had to look away.

“Will Jongwoon-hyung be here when it’s all over?” the pup asked.

“I’ll try,” the vampire whispered. He held tight to Taewung and faced the other pups. “We’ll be back in a moment. We’re bringing you to Busan where you can play with the puplings there. Just wait a moment and each of you will get to go to Busan,” Jongwoon tried to smile happily.

“Let’s go,” Donghae said, voice cracking slightly. Two puplings clutched tight to him. Jongwoon turned and looked at the crowd of confused pups before darkness closed over them. The shadows parted to reveal a quiet room decorated with many flowers.

“Hello, I am Sandara, overseer of the Pupling Care,” a female voice said. Jongwoon turned around to see a pretty werepire smiling at them. “We’ll take very good care of the pups you’re bringing to us,” she smiled.

Jongwoon held out Taewung, chest paining him suddenly as he transferred the pupling to the waiting arms of Sandara.

“Take good care of him. He likes stories,” Jongwoon said, trying to keep his composure. Sandara nodded, cuddling the little pup close. Taewung looked back at Jongwoon, purple eyes confused.

“I have many stories to tell him,” Sandara grinned.

Jongwoon watched the two of them until the shadows closed over him again. He made five trips, carrying one pup each time until all of the abandoned puplings had been brought to Busan. His last glimpse of the puplings was when Sandara began to tell the thrilling tale of her journey to China.

Hyukjae and Donghae were consoling the pups that had been scared and encouraging the others to play and smile. There was only one pupling not listening to any of the werepires and he had purple eyes that watched Jongwoon until darkness brought him back to Seoul.

He got back just in time to see the self-prisoners assembling in the Atrium, taking their turn to be moved to a different place. He searched the crowd and saw Ilbae standing with the help of a werepire he didn’t know. He assumed that the werepire was his mate, Jaewon.

Jongwoon made his way to the self-prisoners, looking at the previous members of the Clan of Seoul. The vampires and werewolves were all protesting despite their weakness from being locked in a cell for so long.

“We want to help fight,” Ilbae insisted, his weak form barely managing to stand. Jaewon propped him higher and Jongwoon’s sire glared at the leader of the Clan of Seoul. Jungsu shook his head.

“I thank you for your loyalty to us but you are all too weak. You need to regain your strengths. We’ll send you to the Clan of Gwangju which is closest to this. Should you wish to come back and help then you may but only once you get your strength back,” Jungsu said, his tone firm with no room for argument.

“We’ll go with them. Don’t worry, we have a plan,” Heechul whispered into the ear of the leader. Jungsu nodded and motioned for them to go ahead.

“No, I’m not leaving!” the yell came from across the Atrium and Jongwoon looked over to see Kyuhyun glaring at Sungmin who looked helplessly at him.

“Kyuhyun, I’m asking you to help with the second group. You’ll be helping the Clan,” Sungmin tried to calm the irate werepire.

Kyuhyun looked down at his Bloodmate, his entire being radiating rage, “You’re asking me to leave for Incheon and wait while The Sanction attacks. You’re asking me to leave and wait doing nothing while you’re ripped to shreds and maybe worse!”

“Jungmo just left for Mokpo with his group. Hyukjae and Donghae are with the puplings in Busan. Everyone’s leaving! I’m just asking you to wait in Incheon where I’ll join you after we clear everyone out,” the werepire warrior tried to explain.

“No, I’ll wait with you. I’m staying behind,” the ex-magnae declared. Sungmin threw up his hands in frustration.

“I want you to be safe, Kyu! I don’t want to see you in the hands of The Sanction screaming as they tear you to shreds! It’s happened to me. I know what it’s like. I don’t want that to happen to you,” Sungmin said, desperately trying to make his Bloodmate understand.

“Min, I refuse to sit somewhere, panicking and wondering if maybe, this time, you won’t come back. Maybe we can’t be killed but maybe we can. We don’t know yet. And I refuse to let you be the one to find out for us,” Kyuhyun’s voice went lower, gaze fixed slowly on his mate.

“It’s hard for him. Mentally, he’s the dominant of their relationship. Physically, Sungmin is the dominant. It’s hard for Kyuhyun because he knows he can’t protect Sungmin. He’s too weak. So he settles for trying to be with Sungmin at every opportunity,” Ryeowook whispered, appearing beside Jongwoon.

The vampire looked down at his mate, senses immediately alert. Ryeowook was tired. He needed to rest. “That’s why he’s making such a fuss about it?” Jongwoon asked. Ryeowook nodded.

The two werepires glared at one another. Finally, Sungmin sighed and looked away. Kyuhyun looked triumphantly at his mate. The werepire warrior raised his hand to the right side of his neck and ran his fingers over the junction of his neck and shoulder.

Kyuhyun gasped and shuddered violently, a soft moan coming from his mouth as he went down on one knee. He bit his lip, and he gazed up at his mate, still trying to be defiant.

“Leave, Kyu. Go and be safe in Incheon. I will be fine,” Sungmin murmured, stroking that spot on his neck. Kyuhyun shivered and bit back a cry.

“What’s happening?” Jongwoon asked. He was jostled slightly as more members of the Clan of Seoul began to leave to different destinations. He looked out the windows of the Atrium and noted with alarm that the sun was getting dangerously low.

Ryeowook sighed and shook his head, “Sungmin’s using his Blood Mark. The mark that Kyuhyun left on his neck after he transferred his own blood to Sungmin. If Sungmin touches it, Kyuhyun experiences intense pleasure and it’s a way of getting him to be obedient.”

“Oh,” Jongwoon looked at the ex-magnae who was gripping the material of his jeans tightly. “Will we have Blood Marks?”

Ryeowook smiled sadly at him. “You could give me one. But that would be unfair. I would have control over you. If I tried to give you one, I would kill you.”

Jongwoon looked away from his mate. He wanted to be able to have a Blood Mark from Ryeowook. Something about the idea appealed greatly to him.

“Sungmin, stop it. You can make him leave but he will come back. You can’t keep him there. Just let him stay. He would return anyways,” Jungsu said, appearing at the werepire warrior’s side. Sungmin took his hand from his neck and Kyuhyun stopped shivering.

“I just want him to be safe,” Sungmin whispered. “He means too much for me to let him stay.”

Jungsu smiled, “Don’t worry. He has you to protect him. But right now, we have to get the last group out. My group, Group Five is headed to Daegu. We need to get the werepires moving. We don’t have much time. The sun has almost set.”

Jaejoong, Yunho, Youngwoon, Ryeowook, Jungsu, Sungmin, Kyuhyun and Jongwoon were the only ones left along with a handful of other werepires who were all waiting their turn to leave for Daegu. They hurriedly began pushing the werepires through the darkness, time running out.

A black hole opened in the middle of the Atrium, just as they pushed another  werepire through. A gasp went through the remaining werepires. Jongwoon’s heart stopped. He didn’t even have to look outside the Atrium to see the army that was there.

A vampire stepped out, red eyes blazing as he surveyed the scene. Another vampire came from behind him, followed by two werewolves who were snarling slightly as they ripped their arms from their vampire escorts.

“So this is the Clan of Seoul,” the first vampire commented. Then he levelled his gaze at the group in the middle of the Atrium. “I’m Siwon, vampire leader of The Sanction.”

One of the werewolves broke away, coming closer to the group, “And I’m Yoochun, werewolf leader of The Sanction.”

Yes, The Sanction has arrived. Ooooooh. The Clan of Seoul didn't ask Jongwoon because it was Ryeowook that told them. And they didn't question because it was so serious that they couldn't afford to treat it as a joke. And Yesung hasn't told them who he is either.
